Parent-Taught Drivers Education

In Texas, all new drivers under 18 must complete an approved driver education course before they can be licensed. The state of Texas allows the parent to teach the student using approved curriculum and materials. Teens may begin the program at 14, but will not be able to get a learner’s permit until the age of 15.

Parent-taught driver training has become popular. Once purchased, a state-approved drivers education course educates the student and parent from beginning to end. Our sponsor, Virtual Drive of Texas, is an approved parent-taught driving course.

To register as a parent-taught trainer through the state of Texas, print this request form and send $20 to the address on the form. By following the criteria in an approved course, the student can learn all state rules, laws and driving techniques needed to be a safer first-time driver.

Motorcycle Training

The State of Texas is particularly concerned about motorcycle safety. Therefore, the state urges all potential motorcycle operators to receive professional training from state-approved instructors.

Why does the state bother? The cold, hard truth is that motorcycle accident victims eat up a big chunk of public health dollars each year when they end up in emergency rooms (or worse, in long-term care facilities).
